Role Summary:
Individuals in this role may operate under two distinct titles: Law Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Sergeant. The primary function of this position is to deliver protection, law enforcement, and security services to patients, visitors, and staff within the healthcare system. Responsibilities include investigating criminal activities on hospital premises, safeguarding life and property, patrolling facilities, and preventing theft and vandalism.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Emergency Response - Responds promptly and effectively to all emergency situations and activated security alarms. Functions as a key member of the Emergency Response Team, managing access to affected areas as necessary. Maintains knowledge of emergency protocols and response procedures. Assists with mental health patient custody and transportation arrangements.
2. Fixed Post Duties - Controls access to the Emergency Department and hospital concourse, operating screening systems to prevent unauthorized items from entering treatment areas. Manages visitor and employee entry after hours, ensuring proper identification and authorization.
3. Investigations and Reporting - Completes incident reports accurately and thoroughly. Investigates criminal incidents, apprehends suspects, and submits necessary documentation for legal proceedings. Conducts criminal history checks and manages found property.
4. Patrol Duties - Conducts regular patrols to deter crime, documenting safety hazards and providing escorts for employees and visitors. Manages access to secured areas and ensures proper handling of patient property.
5. Policy and Procedure Compliance - Familiarizes with departmental and hospital policies, ensuring adherence to federal and state laws. Applies knowledge of legal standards in investigations and patrol duties.
6. Special Responsibilities - Manages specific security-sensitive areas and conducts inspections as required.
7. Traffic Management - Enforces parking regulations and manages vehicle towing as necessary.

Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
* High School diploma or GED
* Successful completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training or equivalent
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* OC Spray, TASER, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and CIT certifications within the first nine months of employment. Must qualify with issued duty weapon within the first six months.
* Must be at least 20 years old and a US Citizen.
* Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* No prior experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ability to work varied shifts and complete computer-generated reports accurately.
