Job Title: Principal Software Safety Engineer

Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Safety Engineer to join our team of experts in Melbourne, Florida. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for applying safety engineering principles to ensure the development of safe and reliable software systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply knowledge of safety engineering principles to identify and mitigate hazards in software systems
  • Develop and implement safety requirements for software systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop safe and reliable software systems
  • Conduct safety analyses and assessments to identify potential hazards and develop mitigation strategies
  • Develop and maintain safety documentation, including safety plans, procedures, and reports
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) with 8 years of experience or Master's degree in a STEM field with 6 years of experience
  • Proven experience in software safety engineering, with a strong understanding of safety principles and regulations
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate hazards in software systems
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance, with the potential to obtain an interim Top Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Software Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Experience with safety tools and methodologies, such as DOORS, Cameo, and PTC Windchill Quality Solutions
  • Knowledge of military systems safety and process standards, including MIL-STD-882 and DO-178B/C
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies
