Role Summary:

The Patient Access Representative serves as the initial point of contact for patients, embodying the highest standards of customer service and compassion. This role is crucial in facilitating the patient's entry into any Mercy facility, encompassing tasks such as scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance, including pre-visit collections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate patient data is collected and entered into the patient record.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and relevant federal, state, and accreditation regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Experience and Education:
    • 1-3 years of clerical and customer service experience preferred.
    • Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance plans is advantageous.
    • A high school diploma is required; some college education is beneficial.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with excellent telephone etiquette.
    • Ability to foster positive relationships with patients, healthcare professionals, and insurance representatives.
    • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
    • Capability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain high accuracy in daily tasks.
    • Proficient in various computer systems; ability to operate a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
    • Position requires prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift.
    • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat as necessary to perform job duties.
