The National Arts Club, a not-for-profit 501c3 organization, is in search of a skilled line cook to enhance our culinary team. With a membership of approximately 1950, the Club is home to many of New York's artistic and creative individuals. The historic Clubhouse provides an elegant setting for exquisite dining experiences, featuring a beautifully designed dining room and bar, art galleries, and a diverse events calendar that includes lectures, panel discussions, and various cultural events.
The Line Cook plays a vital role in a collaborative environment, either as part of a team or independently. This position involves effective communication with food and beverage staff, including cooks, pastry chefs, dishwashers, utility workers, servers, bartenders, bussers, expeditors, and other management personnel. The Line Cook is responsible for overseeing food production for the restaurant, banquet events, and other functions at the Club, while also assisting with food preparation tasks as necessary, ensuring that quality, sanitation, and cost standards are consistently met.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to demonstrate their capability to perform the essential functions of the position.
EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE, LICENSE & CERTIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Degree or certificate from an accredited culinary program preferred
- 5 years of experience as a line cook
- NYC Food Handler's License preferred
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY:
- Extensive culinary knowledge, including cooking techniques, ingredients, procedures, and industry best practices
- Proven abilities in decision-making, time management, and organization with a keen attention to detail
- Experience in effectively multitasking and delegating in a fast-paced kitchen environment
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Operates any assigned station as directed by the supervisor
- Prepares meats, seafood, vegetables, and all mise en place required for the line and special events
- Responsible for all mise en place and station setup
- Delivers dishes that are exceptional in taste and presentation
- Carefully prepares food in accordance with established recipes and procedures
- Adheres to safe and sanitary food handling practices, including personal hygiene, maintaining a clean workspace, and proper food storage
- Prepares daily staff meals
- Upholds the Club's hospitality standards by engaging in welcoming interactions with staff, members, clients, and guests when applicable
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate for extended periods. The employee frequently handles or feels and reaches with hands and arms. Occasionally, the employee may need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move/push up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus in busy environments.

- Due to the cyclical nature of the Club and hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to meet the business needs of the Club, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, late nights, and/or early mornings. Flexibility in scheduling is essential.
