Patient Access Coordinator

About the Role
As a key member of the Revenue Cycle team at University Hospitals, the Patient Access Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring accurate and efficient patient registration, insurance verification, and point-of-service collections. This position requires exceptional customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Interview patients to obtain demographic and insurance information, and utilize complex applications to create or validate patient medical records and insurance claims.
- Verify and allocate insurance plans using electronic eligibility tools, phone calls to payers, and web portals, ensuring accurate information and compliance with regulations.
- Execute patient estimates, educate guarantors on charges and out-of-pocket liability, and establish payment plans as needed for professional and technical services.
- Collect and post co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance, and prior balances due from patients, meeting or exceeding collection targets and productivity standards.
- Take steps to prevent medical record duplications or incorrect patient selection, safeguarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers via phone, email, or correspondence.
- Maintain emergency preparedness knowledge and skills, participating in drills and disaster exercises as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and participate in enterprise special projects as needed.

- Comply with all policies and standards, including those related to the secure maintenance of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Participate in annual training and adhere to the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures.
