Position Purpose

The Mobile Welding and Line Boring Specialist is responsible for executing various intricate repairs on heavy machinery, with a focus on welding and line-boring tasks.

Essential Functions

  • Upholds and promotes the Kirby-Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
  • Conducts repairs and maintenance with minimal supervision
  • Diagnoses and assesses equipment issues; performs repairs according to established protocols and flat rates
  • Removes and installs components, disassembles and reassembles parts, and tests and adjusts systems
  • Plans and organizes methods and sequences for assigned repairs
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and adheres to all safety regulations
  • Keeps work areas and equipment organized, clean, and in good working order
  • Contributes to departmental and product line objectives
  • Completes necessary documentation efficiently and on time
  • Participates in training as directed by supervisor
  • Fosters positive relationships with customers and exhibits exemplary customer service skills
  • Welds components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
  • Repairs machinery and components through welding and filling gaps
  • Tests and inspects welded surfaces and structures for defects
  • Performs line boring and machining tasks at customer locations
  • Completes other job-related responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of continuous experience in a machine shop setting, including line boring and welding experience, preferably in a repair or maintenance context
  • Ability to interpret complex hydraulic and electrical schematics
  • Must possess and maintain a personal set of hand tools and any specialized tools required by the company

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 100 pounds without assistance
  • Physical capability to squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb, and reach overhead
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and various environmental conditions, including exposure to noise, hazardous materials, and fumes
  • Physical stamina to perform maintenance tasks for extended periods, including frequent mounting and dismounting
  • Must adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policies and maintain PPE in good condition
