Position Summary:

The Financial Counselor is responsible for delivering professional and courteous financial guidance to patients regarding their financial obligations. This role involves discussing expected patient balances for upcoming procedures and reviewing patient accounts thoroughly.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Financial Guidance: Assist patients with inquiries related to insurance and provide clear explanations of their financial responsibilities. Review various payment options to facilitate meeting their financial commitments.
  • Inform patients about available payment methods including budget plans, credit options, and other suitable financial solutions.
  • Establish new budget/payment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Evaluate and process applications for patient financial hardship.
Pre-Collection Duties:
  • Prepare financial estimates for all procedures, ensuring patients are informed of their financial responsibilities and collecting payments prior to services rendered.
  • Notify the practice of any unsuccessful pre-collection efforts.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Maintain confidentiality standards for both medical and financial information.
  • Communicate patient information appropriately to ensure confidentiality is upheld.
  • Engage with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional manner to foster a positive environment.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both internally and externally, to manage patient accounts efficiently.
  • Review patient account information and provide clear explanations to patients.
  • Stay updated on job-related skills through ongoing training and development.
  • Participate in compliance programs and loss prevention initiatives.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and report any unsafe conditions to management.
  • Follow established standards of business conduct.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in medical office financial counseling, collections, or billing.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in numerical analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for customer interactions.
Physical Requirements:

The role requires the ability to communicate effectively, read and comprehend information, and perform physical tasks such as standing, sitting, and lifting up to 25 lbs unassisted.
