Position Overview:
The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin is seeking a highly skilled Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with a specialization in Pediatric Plastic Surgery to enhance our dynamic Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a history of clinical excellence and academic achievements, evidenced through their training and professional experience.
Our Division spearheads multi-disciplinary initiatives addressing Cleft and Craniofacial Anomalies, Craniosynostosis, Brachial Plexus, Birthmarks and Vascular Anomalies, Spasticity, and Congenital Extremity Anomalies, collaborating with specialists across various fields within our expanding Children's Hospital.
We serve a diverse pediatric population from a wide geographic area, including Wisconsin, northern Illinois, eastern Iowa, and the upper peninsula of Michigan, and operate two outreach clinics to better serve our community.
The UW SMPH Division of Plastic Surgery comprises 13 full-time faculty members, 18 integrated plastic surgery residents, 2 research fellows, 7 advanced practice providers, and an administrative team of 8.
Our comprehensive plastic surgery services cater to both adults and children, covering general reconstruction, breast surgery, microsurgery, pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgery, gender affirming surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery, aesthetic surgery, and migraine surgery.
Clinical services are primarily provided at University Hospital (a Level One Trauma Center), American Family Children's Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital, with additional services at East Madison Hospital, Meriter Hospital, and Madison Surgery Center.
Faculty members engage in extensive clinical, basic science, and translational research, while also being dedicated to the education of medical students and residents.
Responsibilities will include caring for adult patients with craniofacial trauma, as well as participating in a successful global surgery program.
The UW Department of Surgery encompasses over 160 faculty across eleven specialty divisions, performing more than 25,000 surgical procedures annually.
We train over 70 residents and fellows and consistently rank among the top surgery programs nationally for extramural research funding.
Our department offers a robust infrastructure, including academic resources such as The Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), which fosters a collaborative environment for surgical health services research.
The Office of Clinical Research provides year-round clinical trial coordinator support and regulatory assistance, while our grants management team offers comprehensive support throughout the research process.
The Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin connects surgeons statewide, facilitating collaborative quality improvement initiatives to enhance surgical patient care.

The American Family Children's Hospital is integrated with University Hospital, where adult plastic surgical practices relevant to the candidate's expertise will be supported.
The successful candidate will collaborate with a dedicated team and contribute to the three core academic missions: Clinical Care, Education, and Research.
Clinical responsibilities will account for 75% of the role, with the remaining time allocated to research, education, or scholarly activities and service. Adjustments to these allocations can be made based on the finalist's funding and programmatic needs.
Involvement in resident and medical student education is expected, along with a commitment to research and a preference for interest in global surgery.
The candidate will also engage in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly objectives of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health, fostering collegial relationships with fellow faculty members.
