Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Nutrition Associate to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Nutrition Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting the WIC program by scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and providing nutrition education to participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule WIC appointments and maintain accurate records
  • Provide nutrition education to participants, including breastfeeding support and counseling
  • Assess dietary intake, anthropometric, and hematological values to determine nutritional status and eligibility for program services
  • Facilitate participant goal setting and provide individualized counseling
  • Make referrals to registered dietitians and other healthcare providers as needed
  • Assist with breastfeeding education and support

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the WIC program and current therapeutic diets
  • Principles of nutrition and nutrition standards
  • General office procedures and skilled use of the computer
  • Counseling techniques, including motivational interviewing and participant-centered approaches
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate professionally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training, job experience, or coursework in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field
  • Experience obtaining blood samples and taking heights and weights of individuals
