Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Nutrition Associate to join our team. As a Nutrition Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting the WIC program by scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and providing nutrition education to participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule WIC appointments and maintain accurate records
  • Provide nutrition education to participants, including breastfeeding support and counseling
  • Assess dietary intake, anthropometric, and hematological values to determine nutritional status and eligibility for program services
  • Facilitate participant goal setting and provide individualized counseling
  • Make referrals to the Registered Dietitian as needed
  • Prescribe food benefits and assist with breastfeeding education

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the WIC program, current therapeutic diets, and principles of nutrition
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with diverse stakeholders
  • Skilled use of the computer and general office procedures
  • Ability to promote breastfeeding as the preferred infant feeding method

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training, job experience, or coursework in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related area
  • Experience obtaining blood samples, taking heights and weights, and providing nutrition education
