Job Title: Director of Quality
Reports to: VP of Operations
Job Summary:
The Director of Quality is responsible for the management of Airside MRO's Quality Assurance/Quality Control departments. This includes compliance with all applicable CFRs, customer requirements, and company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directs and oversees the Quality Control Department, Quality Assurance, and Training Program Manager.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
- Ensures compliance with all Federal, Airside MRO, and OSHA regulations.
- Evaluates production operations from a strategic level to ensure products meet quality, integrity, functionality, and other specifications and requirements.
- Collaborates with management and senior staff across production departments and roles to draft acceptable quality standards.
- Develops and implements quality standard testing and evaluation processes.
- Facilitates communication among production divisions and management.
- Assesses test results and approves recommended changes.
- Reviews quality control documentation such as checklists, logs, and reports for effectiveness, accuracy, and relevance.
- Conducts random inspections and quality control checks.
- Periodically reports status of quality control and operations to executive leadership and, when required, regulatory agencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Quality Assurance Responsibilities:
- Familiar with all regulations regarding the operation of an FAA Repair Station: 14 CFR Part 145, 121, 39, 43, 65, etc.
- Maintain all stamp/manager/inspector rosters along with employee summaries.
- Maintain all process manuals: RSQCM, Training Manual (in partnership with Training Program Manager), EASA Supplement, C.A.S.E. procedures manuals.
- Perform internal audits as described in AIRSIDE's process manuals: EASA Supplement, C.A.S.E. procedures manuals, perform follow-ups/draft and complete corrective actions if necessary, Identify trends in deficiencies in the shop to institute new policies and/or training programs.
- Serve as representative/liaison to FAA PMI and Customer quality reps for audits/inspections and perform all corrective action investigations with help from VP of Operations because of those audits/inspections.
- Research new subcontractors for the many special processes involved in maintenance. Perform on-site or mail in audits of those subcontractors to meet FAA/EASA and AIRSIDE RSQCM procedures.
- Assist the Director of Engineering to ensure all calibrated tooling is accounted for and current with calibration dates.
- Assist Training Program Manager to ensure all employee initial/recurrent training is complete and current.
- Oversee all activities in Airside's NDT shop: Coordinate written procedures with Airside's Level III inspector, coordinate visual acuity and annual NDT audits with Level III inspector, and Maintain/coordinate revisions to all procedure manuals as prescribed by ASTM standards.
Quality Control Responsibilities:
- Oversee AIRSIDE's capabilities list per approved OP-Spec Ratings (perform evaluations on incoming new articles).
- Ability to research all technical data needed for items not yet on AIRSIDE's capabilities list alongside the Chief Inspector.
- Train/mentor new inspectors in the Quality Control Department.
- Assist the Chief Inspector on performing warranty inspections/dispositions.
- Ensure mechanics are performing maintenance per proper OEM tech data and AIRSIDE's RSQCM, CASE, and EASA manuals.
- Ensure all special tooling is available to perform maintenance.
- Able to perform the following inspections:
- Incoming/preliminary – articles received from customers for maintenance.
- In-process – during various processes of maintenance.
- Receiving – articles received from AIRSIDE's vendors after a special process.
- Receiving – articles/raw materials received in stores department.
- Final – after completion of work scope.
- Return-to-service – returning articles to service with FAA.
- Familiar with procedures as written in FAA Order and any revisions thereof.
- Familiar with procedures of component maintenance:
- Structural Repair Manuals.
- Component Maintenance Manuals.
- Aircraft/Component Drawings.
- Standard Practices Manuals/SOPM's.
- Composite Material procedures.
Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to train staff.
- Thorough understanding of quality control standards and methodologies.
- Thorough understanding of manufacturing and production in the industry.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Thorough understanding of 14 CFR Part-145 Repair Station operations.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A&P license preferred required.
- Part 145 Repair Station experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand, lie, and kneel in awkward positions and spaces.
- Must be able to lift and pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds at a time.
- Must have visual acuity to inspect equipment and identify defects.
