Certified Peer Specialist

The Certified Peer Specialist provides emotional support and encouragement to individuals served, assisting with daily decision-making and minor problem-solving skills. This role involves observing and monitoring participants' behavior during daily activities, intervening and diffusing potentially disruptive situations using established guidelines, and referring concerns to appropriate staff as needed. The Certified Peer Specialist also charts observations and incidents, assists with evaluation of functional levels of participants, and works with other team members to determine appropriate individual goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Assist individuals with daily living activities at their home, in a daytime non-residential facility, or a residential facility.
- Provide training on basic personal and social skills, simple academics, or work skills to consumers/students in a state school, hospital, juvenile detention facility, residence, group home, workshop, or supported employment environment.
- Work under direct supervision to develop individualized plans for participants and assist with evaluation of functional levels.
High school diploma or GED and any combination of training and experience that would have enabled the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
