Overview:

The Facilities Operations Technician is tasked with overseeing the upkeep and repair of all facilities within a designated area, serving as the primary point of contact for urgent matters that impact the operational readiness of the campus.

Key Responsibilities:

This role involves a daily assessment of:

  • The safety of staff members,
  • The protection of organizational assets, and
  • The quality of service provided to stakeholders.

The Facilities Operations Technician will collaborate with external contractors and service providers for various maintenance tasks. This position reports directly to Campus Administrators and subsequently to the Director of Facilities and their team.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Associate's degree or a minimum of 2 years of experience in project management, or a relevant certification from a trade school, or equivalent practical experience in project oversight, vendor relations, facilities management, and maintenance.
  • A valid driver's license is required throughout the duration of employment.

Experience:

Prior experience in a similar role is preferred.

Essential Duties:

The Facilities Operations Technician will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Serving as the main contact for all facility-related issues (e.g., climate control, spills, emergencies, and repairs).
  • Monitoring the performance of contractors and ensuring compliance with specifications, including janitorial services.
  • Acting as the project coordinator for various projects, including significant repairs and new construction.
  • Assisting in maintaining building security and responding to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.
  • Supporting the Facilities Director in the preparation of the annual maintenance budget.
  • Soliciting bids and estimates from vendors.
  • Replacing light bulbs and performing minor plumbing repairs as needed.
  • Coordinating departmental moves and event setups.
  • Conducting basic electrical work and determining when to engage an electrician.
  • Managing furniture assembly and disassembly.
  • Transporting equipment and supplies as assigned.
  • Performing immediate cleaning tasks to ensure a tidy environment and assisting the custodial team when necessary.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing shipments, including the preparation and confirmation of deliveries.
  • Carrying out additional duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.

  • The ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • The capability to work efficiently under pressure and within tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using standard tools, both powered and non-powered.
  • The flexibility to travel to various work sites as required.
  • The resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Interpersonal Skills:

Interaction with district personnel, customers, and vendors is essential. The Facilities Operations Technician will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor to complete daily tasks, requiring tact and diplomacy when engaging with a diverse population.

Professionalism:

Employees are expected to maintain punctuality and adhere to a professional appearance that reflects positively on the organization.

Additional Responsibilities:

Perform other duties as necessary or requested by administration or the Director of Facilities.

Supervisory Duties:

This position includes supervising janitorial staff.
