Key Responsibilities of the Commercial Lender:

  • • Process applications for commercial and agricultural loans. Evaluate customer financial health by reviewing credit reports and essential documentation to determine loan repayment capability. Provide underwriting recommendations to senior management. Finalize or oversee the completion of all loan documentation and facilitate loan closings.
  • • Engage in the development of lending and deposit business for the institution. Actively reach out to existing clients to foster business growth and pursue new prospects to broaden the client base.
  • • Supervise the existing loan portfolio to ensure a high-quality asset base. Keep current client records, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow forecasts, and all loan documentation.
  • • Collect standard fees associated with all loans.
  • • Assist in the recovery of overdue loans.
  • • Address any inquiries or concerns from customers regarding loans.
  • • Independently manage moderately complex commercial loan credit assessments and structures.
  • • Achieve assigned loan volume targets as established by management.
  • • Maintain the quality of the loan portfolio and adhere to delinquency rate standards set by management and institutional policies.
  • • Ensure compliance with established lending operations and legal regulations.
  • • Foster a professional, courteous, and welcoming atmosphere for clients and colleagues.

Qualifications for the Commercial Lender:

  • • Four to six years of combined experience in credit underwriting, lending, business development, and sales.
  • • A degree in finance, accounting, banking, or equivalent experience in the financial sector.
  • • Completion of the first level of Advanced Commercial Lending School, Graduate Banking School, or Certified Community Lender Certification.
  • • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and influence others, requiring a high degree of diplomacy and trust.
  • • Proficient in analyzing business financial statements and evaluating business viability.
  • • Excellent communication and public relations skills.
  • • Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel) and the ability to learn and effectively use relevant lending software.
  • • Capable of managing multiple projects with varying deadlines.
  • • Strong attention to detail and analytical abilities.
  • • Willingness to participate in civic and professional organizations.
  • • Proven sales skills and ability to cultivate new business relationships.
