Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at the Michigan Institute of Urology. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical assisting and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare procedure rooms for local procedures by setting up instrumentation, checking case supplies, and opening sterile instruments/supplies in an aseptic technique.
  • Assist physicians during local procedures utilizing aseptic technique and demonstrate knowledge of universal precautions, PPE, and aseptic technique.
  • Accurately document on procedure-specific memos and use and document on the Electronic Health Record.
  • Perform injections/installations on order of the physician and accurately draw and process blood specimens.
  • Document in and maintain specimen logs, medication logs, MA lab logs, sterilization logs, etc.
  • Communicate with patients and physicians/providers and document in the medical record patient medical concerns.
  • Insert/remove urinary catheters and participate in the decontamination and processing of procedure instrumentation.
  • Operate the autoclave, including cleaning, sterilization parameters, and maintenance of autoclave records.
  • Assist in room clean-up and removal of soiled instrumentation, supplies, and trash from the procedure room.
  • Clean lab areas, including wiping down furniture/equipment and occasionally mopping floors and emptying trash containers.
  • Operate the Clinitek Machine (urinalysis) and maintain knowledge of cold sterilization, including mixing solution, handling solution, solution parameters, and expiration dates.
  • Restock supply cupboards, labs, and rooms as needed and assist in the maintenance of equipment.
  • Use supplies in a conservative and economically minded manner and transport laboratory specimens, x-ray films, instruments, and/or supplies as needed/requested.
  • Collaborate with orientation of new personnel in the office as requested and/or assigned.
  • Report to the supervisor when the office schedule is finished to assist office personnel in other areas.
  • Act as the patient advocate and notify physician/supervisor of observed condition or change in condition of the patient to provide continuity of patient care.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records and accountability for identifying self-deficits and updating knowledge and skills required to perform responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the vision, mission, and goals of the Michigan Institute of Urology through application of Continuous Quality Improvement.

Requirements:

  • EDUCATION: High School graduate or GED; Medical Assistant certificate required.
  • EXPERIENCE: 1 year of medical assistant office experience demonstrating competency is preferred.
  • LICENSURE: None.
  • CERTIFICATION: Medical Assistant preferred.
  • SKILLS: Demonstrates organization, self-motivation, good communication, and interpersonal skills.

Must have basic computer knowledge and basic computer skills.
