Job Summary

The Tax Staff Accountant will assist in the maintenance and preparation of tax-related matters on an as-needed basis. This role will involve organizing financial documents, ensuring the implementation of efficient and compliant accounting procedures, and preparing quarterly payroll tax returns, sales tax returns, and county ad valorem returns within specified tax deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation of individual and business tax returns with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Maintenance of tax records, tax returns, tax schedules, and related tax reports.
  • Preparation of clients' accounting and review of financial statements for accuracy and legal compliance.
  • Maintenance and update of accounting records and files.
  • Entry of accounting-related information into appropriate databases.
  • Development and maintenance of professional rapport with clients, communicating with clients on financial issues.
  • Meetings with clients to discuss confidential accounting issues.
  • Conduct of month-end and year-end closures and tax reports.
  • Application of new accounting policies and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
Requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy; proactive, deadline-driven, and able to work independently.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office suite and bookkeeping software, including QuickBooks.
  • Working knowledge of various accounting practice management software.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
  • 1-2 years or more of recent public accounting experience.
