Position Summary:
This full-time role operates from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with potential variations in schedule. We are in search of a proficient Patient Services Phlebotomist with a minimum of two years of experience in a dynamic clinical or hospital setting, willing to adapt to various Emory Healthcare locations.
Key Responsibilities:
The Patient Services Phlebotomist will be responsible for:
- Collecting, labeling, and transporting patient specimens efficiently, ensuring adherence to organizational values and exemplary customer service throughout the preanalytical and analytical phases.
- Assuming coordinator duties in the absence of supervisory personnel, including delegating tasks to team members and acting as a departmental liaison during off-hours and weekends.
- Functioning as a float personnel across clinics or hospitals, demonstrating knowledge of procedures and operations at multiple sites while maintaining flexibility in scheduling.
- Initiating corrective actions for unacceptable specimens and ensuring strict compliance with patient identification protocols prior to specimen collection.
- Training and mentoring new staff or students in blood collection and specimen processing, often taking on lead trainer responsibilities.
Clinic Responsibilities:
In a clinic setting, the incumbent may:
- Review test requisitions and appropriately order tests, following up on incomplete or questionable test orders.
- Provide guidance to patients and outreach clients regarding non-blood specimen collections.
- Maintain standing order files and manage lab appointment scheduling.
- Prepare and triage specimens for the correct testing facility and obtain necessary waivers for Medicare coverage when applicable.
Hospital Responsibilities:
In a hospital environment, the role includes:
- Maintaining and utilizing computerized workstations, ensuring they are adequately charged and operational.
- Adhering to patient isolation protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
- Being available for emergent collections and collaborating with clinical staff to maintain accurate computerized records while resolving outstanding specimen collections.
Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, along with two years of relevant phlebotomy experience and a phlebotomy certification.
Flexibility to work at various locations and shifts is essential, along with reliable transportation.
Basic computer skills, including a typing speed of at least 35 words per minute, are required for clinic-based roles, while familiarity with medical terminology and customer service skills are expected.

Physical Requirements:
This role may involve medium physical demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs and carrying objects up to 25 lbs. The position requires occasional to frequent standing and walking, with some sitting and close eye work, depending on assigned tasks.
