Job Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) will work under the direct supervision of a certified Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide therapeutic and educational services to students with communication disorders in a school setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the SLP to assess students' speech and language abilities using appropriate diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with communication disorders.
  • Provide direct therapy services to students, both individually and in groups, using evidence-based techniques and strategies.
  • Support students in improving their articulation, phonological awareness, fluency, voice, and language skills through targeted exercises and activities.
  • Facilitate communication and social interaction skills, including pragmatic language, for students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders or social communication disorders.
  • Support students with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, such as sign language or communication boards, to enhance their ability to express themselves.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals involved in the student's care to ensure appropriate carry-over of therapy goals across academic settings.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of student progress, including therapy sessions, assessments, and any changes in treatment plans.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Speech Language Pathology Assistant program or equivalent, or Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
  • State licensure or certification as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant, as required by the state or district.
  • Prior experience working with children or students in a school or clinical setting is preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of various speech and language disorders and their associated therapy techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks to meet the needs of a diverse caseload.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with various software programs used for documentation and data tracking.
  • A compassionate and patient demeanor with the ability to motivate and engage students.
  • Willingness to stay updated on the latest research and best practices in the field of speech-language pathology.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions from the supervising SLP.
