ROLE: SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS ANTENNA SPECIALIST
SpaceX is utilizing its extensive expertise in aerospace engineering to advance Starlink, the premier broadband internet service globally.
Our team is responsible for the design, construction, testing, and operation of all components of this system, including thousands of satellites, user-friendly consumer products, and the integrated software that connects everything seamlessly.
As we expand and enhance the Starlink constellation, we are in search of exceptional engineers to join our mission.
In addition to providing broadband internet, Starlink is pioneering a revolutionary Direct to Cell satellite network aimed at delivering universal cellular connectivity through the Starlink satellite system.
We are collaborating with telecommunications firms worldwide to offer this service directly to existing LTE devices, ensuring coverage in any location where the devices can access the sky.
As a vital member of the Antenna Engineering team, you will take full ownership of the design and development of phased array antennas, parabolic antennas, and various RF systems for satellites, gateways, and consumer hardware, while also having the chance to innovate new market solutions.
Your role will involve regular engagement with senior leadership to influence the operational framework of our satellite constellation and network, while collaborating closely with electrical, silicon, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to guide projects from initial concept through to production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design advanced antenna and feed systems for next-generation products, including phased array and reflector systems.
• Fabricate and evaluate prototypes of antennas, feed systems, and RF front ends.
• Contribute to the development of software and testing of digital beamforming systems to validate full phased array functionality.
• Provide expertise in phased array technology to establish specifications and troubleshoot issues across satellite and consumer phased array products.
• Conduct design validation testing for both prototype and production designs.
• Support various aspects of antenna integration into spacecraft and other systems.
• Analyze operational RF performance data from field units and explore methods for performance enhancement and issue resolution.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
• 2+ years of research or development experience in RF and antennas.
• 1+ years of experience with 3D EM simulation tools such as CST, HFSS, FEKO, EMPro, TICRA, or XFDTD.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Master's degree or PhD in electrical engineering with research or thesis work focused on RF or antennas.
• Familiarity with fundamental RF concepts, including impedance matching, linear and aperture antennas, Smith chart, power handling metrics (IIP2, IMD), microwave network analysis, and RF filter design.
• 1+ years of programming experience in Python, C#, C++, or MATLAB.
• Knowledge of antenna measurement techniques and tools, such as anechoic/reverberation chambers and near-field EM measurements.
• Experience with mainstream RF circuit simulation tools like AWR, ADS, or Genesys.
• Proficiency in antenna prototyping techniques and tools.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, autonomous, and demanding startup environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A passion for advancing the commercial space sector and human space exploration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to work extended hours or weekends as necessary to meet mission-critical deadlines.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Satellite Communications Antenna Specialist/Level I:
$120,000 - $145,000 per year.
Satellite Communications Antenna Specialist/Level II:
$140,000 - $170,000 per year.
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one component of your total rewards package at SpaceX.Eligible employees may also receive long-term incentives, including company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and opportunities to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

Employees may accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and are eligible for 10 or more paid holidays annually. Exempt employees qualify for 5 days of sick leave each year.
