The Pizza Operations Lead is an essential role within our culinary team, reporting directly to the Culinary Manager. This position is tasked with effectively managing the daily functions of the pizza kitchen and its personnel. Alongside hands-on kitchen duties, the Lead will oversee scheduling, staff interactions, and serve as a vital communication link between the pizza operations and the Culinary Manager, representing the pizza team in relation to retail and event activities. This role is pivotal in fulfilling our mission to craft exceptional beverages and pizzas while delivering a welcoming and memorable customer experience.
This is a full-time position based in our Tewksbury location, requiring availability for nights and weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Crafting premium pizzas following Tree House's established standards.
- Managing kitchen staff schedules in collaboration with the Culinary Manager, adapting as needed to meet operational demands, including event preparations.
- Providing constructive feedback and support to team members to ensure the pizza program meets the expectations set by the Culinary Manager.
- Communicating any relevant issues or feedback to the Culinary Manager regarding pizza operations.
- Overseeing daily staffing, operations, and employee relations, escalating issues to the Culinary Manager and Human Resources when necessary.
- Addressing staffing shortages, including arranging coverage for unexpected absences.
- Conducting performance evaluations and check-ins with team members, offering guidance for professional growth and implementing disciplinary measures when required.
- Collaborating with Lead Pizza Makers to maintain the quality of the pizza standard operating procedures, considering factors such as ingredient sourcing and cooking methods.
- Training Pizza Prep Cooks and Pizza Makers in accordance with Tree House processes and standards.
- Assigning tasks to pizza staff, encompassing food preparation, inventory management, and cleanliness.
- Setting a benchmark for communication and teamwork within the pizza team and with retail and leadership teams.
- Ensuring that pizzas meet Tree House's standards for taste, quality, presentation, and promptness.
- Updating retail management and staff on any menu changes as necessary.
- Being knowledgeable about ingredients that may pose allergy risks to customers.
- Monitoring inventory levels and alerting management when supplies are low.
- Performing additional kitchen duties as required.
- At least one year of supervisory experience in a professional kitchen environment is required.
- Prior experience as a Pizza Maker in a commercial setting is essential.
- Ability to consistently work a minimum of two closing shifts weekly and two of the three weekend days.
- A food handler's license is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with pizza dough preparation is necessary.
- Familiarity with professional brick or stone ovens is beneficial.
- Demonstrated food preparation and handling skills, including proficiency with kitchen tools.
- Understanding of proper food safety practices.
- Capability to follow standardized recipes accurately.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
