Job Summary

Under general direction, to provide rehabilitative counseling services in Mental Health, Vocational, Forensics or related programs; to formulate client assessments, treatment plans and provide rehabilitation counseling for assigned clients; to gather and present case history data; and to do related work as required.

This is the journey-level rehabilitation counselor class requiring incumbents to be fully trained and professionally skilled upon entrance into the class.

Rehabilitation Counselor II's provide a full range of rehabilitation counseling services, involving considerable latitude and independence of judgment. Direct supervisory review and guidance is provided only in selected cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for clients with mental health, substance abuse, or dual diagnosis issues.
  • Conduct assessments, evaluations, and counseling sessions with clients to identify needs and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare providers, social workers, and other professionals, to ensure comprehensive care and support for clients.
  • Provide education and support to clients and their families on mental health, substance abuse, and related issues.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of client interactions, progress, and outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical or Educational Psychology, or Social Work/Marriage and Family Counseling/Professional Counselor.
  • Two years of full-time experience in the field of vocational rehabilitation, alcoholic or drug abuse rehabilitation, or Mental Health treatment.
  • Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
  • Possession of Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Work, or License Professional Counselor license is desirable.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a variety of settings, including offices, clinics, and community-based programs. May be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
