Job Description

The Desert Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to support the STEM Education Program in Reno, Nevada. This position will play a critical role in the development, maintenance, and inventory of Green Boxes, self-contained STEM kits containing curriculum and all supplies needed for a classroom to engage in hands-on activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inventory, refill, and build Green Boxes quarterly
  • Receive, inventory, and organize Green Box workshop boxes and materials
  • Develop educational activities and programs for K-12 students
  • Prep and facilitate educational and public outreach events
  • Present education programs to K-12 classrooms
  • Assist with training and event planning and implementation
  • Assist with administration of the Green Box Program
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong interest in working with K-12 students and/or educators
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite programs
  • Ability to work independently and maintain responsibility for individual work
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Highly organized with an attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual - Spanish and English
  • Experience working with inventory, logistics, picking, and packing
  • Experience working with PreK-12 students, educators, or non-profit organizations
  • Knowledge with graphic design programs to create flyers or presentations
Compensation and Schedule:
  • $17.20 per hour DOE, no benefits
  • 20 hours per week
  • Periodic Saturday and evening events
Physical Requirements:
  • This position will require physical tasks such as lifting objects up to 60 lbs., stooping, bending, kneeling, or standing for long periods of time.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation as local travel is required
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check
  • If enrolled at an NSHE institution for the school year, students must carry at least 6 credits to be considered a student worker
