Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Imaging Specialist to join our team at Henry Ford Health System. As an Ophthalmic Imaging Specialist, you will be responsible for performing quality diagnostic testing and direct patient care utilizing the health systems and department processes, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all ophthalmic diagnostic image testing, including retinal fundus photography, fundus auto fluorescence photography, optical coherence tomography, corneal topography, pachymetry, corneal pentacam, specular microscopy, slit lamp photography, external photography, OCT angiography, and any new technologies as they are incorporated.
  • Dilate the iris of patients' eyes and take intraocular retinal pictures with special ophthalmology cameras at the request of an ophthalmologist.
  • Provide patient care focused on providing the best quality of compassionate care in an efficient manner.
  • Anticipate and exceed patients' and customers' expectations that meet all elements of the Henry Ford Experience.
  • Work collaboratively with employees, leadership, physicians, and various external audiences to achieve common goals.
  • Conduct minor repairs to photo equipment and related equipment to keep diagnostic services running.
  • Serve as a liaison between staff physicians and support departments as it pertains to diagnostic testing quality.
  • Follow HIPAA/OSHA guidelines, adhere to the rules and regulations of the department and health system.
Requirements
  • At a minimum, high school diploma required.
  • College education preferred.
  • Actively working to acquire certification as an Optical Coherence Tomography - Certified (OCT-C) by the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (OPS) required.
  • CPR (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • Must always maintain above-listed required certifications.
  • Research certifications must be obtained and maintained for each research study that requires ophthalmic imaging.
  • Lapsed research certifications must be reacquired within (1) month of expiration.

Working Conditions

Works in low light conditions to perform diagnostic testing adequately. Required to use personal protection equipment when exposed to bodily fluids. Occasional exposure to dangerous chemicals. Assist in transferring patients to/from wheel chair into imaging equipment.
