Breast Imaging Specialist

The Detroit Medical Center is in search of a dedicated Breast Imaging Specialist to join our team in providing exceptional healthcare services.
Position Overview- Specialty: Breast Imaging Specialist
- Discipline: Allied Health Professional
- Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Shift: Day shift, 8 hours

About the Role
Under general supervision and adhering to established protocols, the Breast Imaging Specialist performs diagnostic mammographic examinations using advanced imaging technology. This role involves verifying patient identity and assessing medical records to ensure the appropriateness of the procedures.
- Conduct patient interviews to gather and confirm medical history, evaluating risk factors such as medications and psychological indicators.
- Clearly explain the procedure to patients, including potential side effects, risks, benefits, and alternatives.
- Prepare equipment and capture necessary images as per established guidelines. Review images, document any deviations from protocols, and communicate findings to the radiologist.
- Recognize and respond to medical emergencies as necessary, providing post-care instructions as directed by the physician.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the radiology department, focusing on patient care, workflow efficiency, and satisfaction.
- Provide educational support to residents, student technologists, and new staff members.
- Be available for on-call duties as required by the department, and may perform Radiologic Technologist duties when necessary.
Qualifications:
Essential Qualifications
1. Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography (M).
2. Completion of American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BLS) training is required by the end of the orientation period.

1. Strong analytical and clinical skills to determine the most suitable imaging methods based on patient capabilities.
2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients under various emotional states.
3. Proficient technical knowledge for operating specialized imaging equipment and software.
4. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively within a dynamic work environment.
5. Familiarity with the American College of Radiology and MQSA accreditation standards.
6. Physical stamina for tasks involving walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.
7. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate imaging equipment and produce high-quality diagnostic images.
