Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cyber Security Engineer to join our team in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for the Heuristic Behavior Analytics (HBA) implementation, leading the day-to-day deployment and operations and maintenance (O&M) of the HBA technical baseline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Implement Security Protocols

Develop and implement robust security protocols to safeguard the organization's digital assets, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive information.

Monitor and Update Security Systems

Regularly update and monitor security systems to ensure they are effective against the latest threats, identifying and mitigating potential vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.

Address Security Breaches

Respond to and address any security breaches or incidents, working closely with stakeholders to contain and resolve the issue in a timely and effective manner.

Perform Vulnerability Testing

Conduct regular vulnerability testing to identify and fix weaknesses in the network and systems, ensuring the organization's security posture is strong and resilient.

Establish Security Policies

Develop and enforce security policies and best practices within the organization, ensuring all employees understand their role in maintaining the security and integrity of the organization's digital assets.

Provide Security Guidance

Offer expert guidance and advice on security improvements, ensuring the organization remains compliant with relevant laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related field is required, or 8 years of additional relevant experience considered in lieu of degree.

Technical Skills

10+ years of proven experience in software development, with a strong track record of delivering projects on time.

Leadership and Interpersonal Skills

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.

Problem-Solving and Communication Skills

Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to issue resolution, with effective communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Detail-Oriented and Organized

A detail-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality results, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scripting and Programming

One or more of the following: scripting and programming languages, encryption and cryptography.

Clearance and Background Investigation

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Location

This position is remote, with the flexibility to work from anywhere.
