Key Responsibilities- Escort or Direct Children/Pedestrians Across Streets: Safely escort or direct children and pedestrians across streets, stopping traffic as necessary, and ensuring their safe passage to and from school buses.
- Control Vehicular or Pedestrian Traffic: Monitor and control vehicular or pedestrian traffic at street crossings, ensuring a safe and orderly flow of traffic.
- Communicate Safety Rules: Clearly communicate safety rules and practices to children and pedestrians, ensuring they understand the importance of following safety protocols.
- Learn Street Traffic Signs: Familiarize yourself with the location and purpose of street traffic signs within your assigned area, ensuring you can effectively direct traffic and pedestrians.
- Monitor Traffic Flow: Continuously monitor traffic flow to identify safe gaps for students and pedestrians to cross streets, minimizing the risk of accidents.
- Establish Good Relationships: Build strong relationships with students, school staff, and parents, fostering a positive and supportive environment.
- Work with School Bus Drivers: Collaborate with school bus drivers to ensure children who must cross streets to board or exit buses are safe and secure.
- Active Listening and Problem-Solving: Possess active listening skills and be able to effectively convey information, as well as demonstrate problem-solving skills incorporating sensitivity and speech clarity.
- Follow General Rules: Adhere to general rules when caring for children, prioritizing their safety and well-being.
- Knowledge of Public Safety Policies: Familiarize yourself with public safety and security policies and procedures, ensuring you can effectively respond to emergencies.
- Assess Student Needs: Be able to assess the needs of children and those around them, demonstrating knowledge of child behavior and development.
- Work Schedule: Work a part-time, seasonal schedule, with hours and shifts determined on an annual basis.
- Professional Conduct: Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times, adhering to our school's dress code and behavioral expectations.
- Self-Motivation and Supervision: Demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision, ensuring you can effectively manage your responsibilities.
- Standing and Visibility: Remain standing and visible at your post throughout your shift, ensuring you can effectively monitor traffic and pedestrians.
- Prohibited Activities: Refrain from using tobacco products and electronic devices while on duty, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- High School Diploma: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Associates Degree Preferred: An associates degree is preferred but not required.
- Age Requirement: Be at least 21 years of age.
- City of Springfield Residency: Be a resident of the City of Springfield.
