An Electrical Engineer II/III is expected to possess intermediate to advanced expertise, executing a variety of tasks with skill and employing analytical methods to tackle diverse challenges. This role is integral to the Electrical Engineering team, which oversees the operation and maintenance of electrical substations, collection systems, transmission lines, and significant electrical components within ACCIONA's renewable energy assets in North America.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead electrical engineering initiatives within Operations & Maintenance for the upkeep and enhancement of renewable energy facilities, including defining requirements, reviewing engineering designs, and managing projects.
  • Ensure optimal equipment availability through an effective preventative maintenance strategy for collection systems, substations, and transmission facilities ranging from 12kV to 500kV.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and system events for reporting and process enhancement.
  • Develop processes and protocols to safely and efficiently operate and maintain ACCIONA's renewable generation facilities for exemplary performance.
  • Provide technical support to field personnel regarding high voltage collection, substation, and transmission equipment up to 500kV.
  • Act as the electrical technical liaison to support Procurement, including factory testing of major electrical equipment for renewable energy facilities.
  • Offer engineering consulting assistance to various departments, including Construction and Power Marketing.
  • Optimize the power performance of electricity generation and collection system equipment.
  • Prepare management reports concerning system status and events.
  • Assist senior engineers in addressing complex issues and analyses.
  • Evaluate system conditions, foresee potential problems, and implement strategies to mitigate issues affecting renewable power projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ACCIONA and renewable generation technologies through training and industry publications.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis to accurately identify failure modes and causes.
  • Support the training and mentoring of electrical field technicians and operations staff in the maintenance and operation of electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping.
  • Maintain necessary training certifications and competencies.
  • Plan and oversee switching and tagging for personnel involved in the operation and restoration of renewable energy assets.
  • Specify, execute, and review power system studies, arc flash analyses, relay settings, and coordination.
  • Build partnerships with third-party service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and manufacturer standards at renewable generating facilities.
  • Provide technical support in resolving issues related to codes and standards (NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, ANSI, UL, IEC).
  • Adhere to applicable regulatory reliability standards and compliance requirements, including market rules and NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for relevant NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution or equivalent is required.
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution will be considered as part of the experience requirement.
  • A Professional Engineering (P.E.) License is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in utility or power plant operations and maintenance is required; candidates with over 8 years of relevant experience may be considered for a Senior HV Electrical Engineer position.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide training on complex operations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe operations, serving as a role model and resource within the organization.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles and concepts.
  • Able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Proficient in computer applications (e-mail, internet, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Familiarity with protective relay applications and software (e.g., Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), GE Multilin Enervista UR).
  • Ability to represent the company professionally when interacting with external organizations.
  • Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Capability to climb vertical ladders up to 300 feet in height.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time for domestic and international assignments.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a passport.
