An Electrical Engineer II/III is expected to have intermediate to advanced expertise, executing diverse tasks with skill and employing analytical methods to address various challenges. This role is integral to the Electrical Engineering team, which oversees the operation and maintenance of electrical substations, collection systems, transmission lines, and major electrical components within the ACCIONA Energy North America renewable energy portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical engineering initiatives within Operations & Maintenance for the upkeep and enhancement of renewable energy facilities, including defining requirements and specifications, reviewing engineering schematics, and managing projects.
- Guarantee optimal equipment availability through an effective preventative maintenance strategy for collection systems, substations, and transmission facilities ranging from 12kV to 500kV.
- Examine data to identify trends and system occurrences for reporting and process enhancement.
- Develop processes and protocols to safely and efficiently operate and maintain ACCIONA's renewable generation facilities for optimal performance.
- Provide technical support to field personnel regarding high voltage collection, substation, and transmission equipment up to 500kV.
- Serve as the electrical technical liaison to assist Procurement, supporting factory testing of major electrical equipment designated for renewable energy facilities.
- Offer engineering consulting assistance to various departments, including Construction and Power Marketing.
- Enhance power performance of electricity generation and collection system equipment.
- Generate management reports concerning system status and events.
- Assist senior engineers in resolving complex issues and conducting analyses.
- Assess system conditions, foresee potential problems, and implement strategies to mitigate or prevent issues affecting renewable power projects managed by ACCIONA Energy North America's System Operation Center.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ACCIONA and renewable generation technologies through participation in training opportunities and reviewing industry publications.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis to accurately identify failure modes and causes.
- Support the training, coaching, and mentoring of electrical field technicians and operations staff in the preventative maintenance and operation of electrical distribution and control systems.
- Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping.
- Maintain necessary training certifications and proficiencies.
- Plan and oversee switching and tagging for office and field personnel in the operation and restoration of renewable energy assets.
- Specify, execute, and review power system studies, arc flash analyses, relay settings, and relay coordination.
- Establish relationships with third-party service providers.
- Ensure that work performed at renewable generation facilities adheres to all relevant regulatory and manufacturer standards.
- Provide technical assistance in resolving codes and standards issues (NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, ANSI, UL, IEC).
- Comply with applicable regulatory reliability standards and compliance requirements, including market rules and NERC Reliability Standards.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for relevant NERC Reliability Standards.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution or equivalent is required.
- A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution will contribute to years of experience.
- A Professional Engineering (P.E.) License is preferred but not mandatory.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in utility or power plant operations and maintenance is required. A Senior HV Electrical Engineer position will be considered for candidates with over 8 years of relevant experience.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to train on complex operations.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe operations, serving as a role model and resource within the organization.
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical theories and concepts.
- Able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Proficient in computer applications (e-mail, internet, Microsoft Office Suite).
- Familiarity with protective relay applications and software (e.g., Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), GE Multilin Enervista UR).
- Ability to represent the company professionally when interacting with external organizations.
- Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards.
- Capability to climb vertical ladders up to 300 feet in height.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time for domestic and international assignments.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to obtain a Passport.
