Job Title: Licensed Vocational Nurse II - Complex Care Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a Licensed Vocational Nurse II, you will provide complex care to individuals residing at the TCID who have complex TB medical diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provides advanced, technical nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) Charge Nurse.
* Performs all duties in a manner appropriate to the age of the patient.
* Records and reports all observed signs, symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patient's condition to the RN.
* Follows policies and procedures in reporting medication errors.
* Administers medications to patients, orally or by injection, including intra-venous medications and treatments.
* Documents care and observations in the clinical record. Accurately transcribes and notes physician orders. Participates with Multi-Disciplinary Care team.
* Assists with admitting, discharging, and transferring patients. Takes action to ensure patients safety and to maintain a safe environment.
* Participates in team conferences, development of plan of care, and shift reports. Assists with orientation of new employees.
* Interacts with patients and participates with them in diversional activities. Actively participates on nursing and hospital committees.
* Assumes responsibility for own continuing education.
* Serves as a resource/mentor for new LVNs. Assists the RN Supervisor with on the job nursing instruction and training of other new LVNs.
* Ensures that supplies are available, in advance, to provide the required procedure or treatment. Takes inventory and ensures the unit is properly stocked. Orders supplies through appropriate channels when they are needed.
* Responds to emergency situations to ensure safety of individuals. Follows safety and infection control procedures of the hospital.

Requirements:

* Knowledge and ability to perform nursing procedures for which the vocational nursing course has provided the necessary degree of skill and judgment; performance shall be limited to those acts for which he/she has been prepared.
* Knowledge of administrative and operational policies and procedures.
* Knowledge of principles of human behavior.
* Knowledge of the effects of stress upon individuals and groups.
* Knowledge of age specific nursing intervention.
* Knowledge required to provide age-appropriate care to young adults, adults, and geriatric individuals, knowledge of human development.
* Skill in providing age-appropriate nursing care to young adults, adults, and geriatric patients.
* Skilled in the use of equipment used in patient care.
* Ability to work cooperatively with staff members and establish positive therapeutic relationships with patients.
* Ability to complete prescribed training program to gain work related competencies in the techniques and methods of treatment to include CPR and other related training.
* Ability to assess general physical condition of patients.
* Ability to record observations completely, accurately, legibly, and concisely.
* Ability to perform duties of Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) I.
* Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, to read, write, and speak English.
* Ability to accept and utilize supervision.
* Ability to exercise tact, initiative, and good judgment in dealing with people.
