Job Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse II performs highly complex vocational nursing work, providing care, treatment, and general welfare to individuals with complex TB medical diagnoses. This role requires advanced technical nursing skills, strong communication, and collaboration with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides advanced, technical nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) Charge Nurse.
  • Performs all duties in a manner appropriate to the age of the patient, recording and reporting all observed signs, symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patient's condition to the RN.
  • Administers medications to patients, orally or by injection, including intra-venous medications and treatments.
  • Documents care and observations in the clinical record, accurately transcribing and noting physician orders.
  • Assists with admitting, discharging, and transferring patients, ensuring patient safety and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Participates in team conferences, development of plan of care, and shift reports, assisting with orientation of new employees.
  • Interacts with patients and participates with them in diversional activities, actively participating on nursing and hospital committees.
  • Assumes responsibility for own continuing education, serving as a resource/mentor for new LVNs.
  • Ensures that supplies are available, in advance, to provide the required procedure or treatment, taking inventory and ensuring the unit is properly stocked.
  • Responds to emergency situations to ensure safety of individuals, following safety and infection control procedures of the hospital.
Requirements
  • Must be licensed as a licensed vocational nurse by the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse License Compact.
