Job Overview

Reporting To: Superintendent

Position Summary: The Dirt Foreman is responsible for overseeing the construction crew, ensuring adherence to project specifications and timelines. The primary focus is on dirt work operations.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License, OSHA10/30 certification, First Aid, and CPR training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily job safety analyses to identify and mitigate safety risks, promoting a secure work environment.
  • Efficiently manage and direct crew activities.
  • Supervise and guide the training, evaluation, and task assignments of crew members.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of project plans and specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints and technical documents effectively.
  • Oversee the management of tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Ensure optimal equipment usage.
  • Respond promptly to production challenges on-site.
  • Accurately report crew hours and time codes on daily timesheets.
  • Contribute to enhancing company operations.

Essential Requirements:

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, reporting unsafe practices to the Safety Representative or supervisor.
  • Engage in proactive teamwork to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Exhibit leadership by setting an example and sharing expertise with others.

Language Proficiency:

  • Ability to read basic two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences in words and numbers.
  • Capable of writing and speaking simple sentences.

Mathematical Competence:

  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Competent in calculating rates, ratios, and percentages, as well as interpreting bar graphs.

Reasoning Skills:

  • Ability to apply common sense to follow detailed written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Organizational Skills: Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Safety Awareness: Must be knowledgeable about and adhere to the company's safety policies as outlined in the safety manual.

Education: Less than a High School Diploma.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in highway and road construction.
  • 4-5 years' experience specifically in dirt work.

Physical Demands: The role requires heavy physical activity and the ability to perform strenuous tasks.

Manual Dexterity: Sufficient manual dexterity to handle items and work with hands, with the ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.

Work Environment: The position involves outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditions, including rain, sun, snow, and wind. The employee may encounter loud noise levels and other physical demands typical of construction environments.
