We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Detention Deputy Pre-Certified to join our team at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Florida. As a key member of our law enforcement team, you will be responsible for maintaining order and physical custody of inmates in a secure facility, while ensuring the safety and security of the community.
Key Responsibilities- Security and Custody: Provide direct and remote supervision of inmates, conduct security checks, and respond to emergency situations.
- Intake and Release: Receive and process inmates, maintain their property, and direct them throughout the intake process.
- Emergency Response: Observe and respond to conduct and behavior of inmates, use appropriate levels of force to control combative individuals, and direct the use of physical force necessary to protect oneself and others.
- Administrative Tasks: Schedule and supervise inmate visitations, supervise the dispensing of food, and conduct metal and x-ray detection of individuals and materials.
- Reporting and Documentation: Run daily reports, enter information into a database, and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
- Education and Certification: High school diploma or GED certificate, and possession of a valid certification by the State of Florida as a Correctional Officer (Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission Basic Recruit Certificate).
- Physical Abilities: Ability to physically handle and control prisoners resisting detention, and safely and skillfully operate a motor vehicle.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with diverse populations.
- Work Environment: Ability to work in a hostile environment of inmates and their visitors, and project a professional image at all times.
- Physical Abilities Assessment (PAA): Successful completion of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Physical Abilities Assessment (PAA) within 30 days of application.
