The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Performs complex CT procedures, utilizing professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history.
- Prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patients and/or family members.
- Identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
- Reviews patient prescriptions to verify appropriateness of exams and communicates with Radiologists and Referring Physicians as needed.
- Responsible for calling physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with CT protocols.
- Verifies insurance authorized exam scripts and sends exam modification forms to Finance for re-verification.
- Obtains outside studies (CDs) and schedules them in EPIC to ensure availability in PACS for comparison by Radiologists.
- Provides exam copies to patients and requesting physicians and/or family members.
- Evaluates radiographs using PACS to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value.
- Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from medical records, significant others, and healthcare providers.
- Determines patient preparation for procedures, including shielding and immobilization devices.
- Determines appropriate contrast type and dose for administration.
- Provides accurate explanations and instructions to patients.
- Addresses and documents patient questions and concerns regarding procedures.
- Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines.
- Monitors patient physical condition for adverse reactions during procedures.
- Responsible for scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Adheres to Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality policies.
- Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and radiological positioning of the human body.
- Understanding of mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
- Thorough knowledge of PACS systems.
- Maintains CEU credits.
- Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within 12 months of hire date.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 3 months of hire date.
- Six months of CT experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Epic and any HIS/RIS system added by the hospital.
