Job Description Summary

The Director of Industry Relations will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy for engaging corporate and other potential external partners with the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) faculty, staff, and students. This includes managing relationships with domestic and international companies in the engineering and computing industries, as well as identifying and advancing relationships with relevant industries to support experiential learning programs, co-curricular programs, and graduate programs.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and steward a wide range of industrial corporate relations for the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC).
  2. Manage, identify, and advance relationships with relevant industries to support and enhance experiential learning programs, to support co-curricular programs and centers, to increase the number of companies working directly with departments/centers, and to support and enhance the graduate programs in the CEC.
  3. Serve as the lead for employer relations with employers seeking candidates within the engineering and technology career cluster; engage with employers through meetings and events, and source employers that would appeal to students within the cluster.
  4. Take a leadership role with career fairs throughout the academic year, particularly the STEM Career and Internship Fair. Solicit employer registrations, help with messaging to employers, and engage employers in career fair prep workshops.
  5. Educate employers on the unique skills, strengths, and experiences that CEC majors can bring to their internships and full-time opportunities.
  6. Identify faculty career champions in the College of Engineering and Computing who are open to inviting employers to speak to their classes and help facilitate those connections.
  7. Identify educational needs of employers and their employees, and align with CEC current and potential new programs or certificate offering programs.
  8. Coordinate closely with the CEC academic departments, graduate programs, centers, institutes, government relations, and University Advancement.
  9. Maintain interdepartmental relationships to exchange relevant information and collaborate on events.
  10. Develop marketing materials and collaborate with the Director of CEC Marketing and Communication to enhance marketing, contributing to the support of CEC industrial corporate relations.
  11. Support CEC Admissions efforts via college tours, on and off campus admission events, and engaging with prospective students and families.
Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Desire to identify, develop, and manage current and future industry relationships, particularly with organizations that appeal to engineering and computing majors
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Familiarity with desktop publishing software
  • Ability to travel

Consideration may be given to candidates with a Master's degree and 10 years or more of broad industrial experience; emphasis on sales and marketing in engineering and computing; event planning experience.
