Position: Quality Assurance Field Inspector (QAFP) – Geotechnical

Reports to: Chief Resident Engineer

Key Attributes:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Exceptional communication and writing capabilities.
  • A solid understanding of construction methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with the ability to navigate company-specific internet-based systems.
  • The physical capability to work in challenging weather conditions and perform moderately strenuous tasks, including traversing rough terrain, climbing ladders, and lifting weights up to 50 pounds.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to set a positive example for colleagues.
Technical Duties:

The responsibilities include:

  • Conducting geotechnical inspections.
  • Performing oversight inspections and audits to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, quality control plans, and other necessary provisions.
  • Executing field surveillance of quality procedures, verifying corrective actions for quality findings, and reviewing testing, inspection, and sampling documentation.
  • Assessing quality control and assurance records.
  • Preparing and submitting detailed daily work records in accordance with the NYSDOT Manual of Uniform Record Keeping (MURK) or other approved formats.
  • Reviewing technical drawings and engineering data to ensure structures are constructed per specifications.
  • Conducting site visits and investigations, analyzing engineering challenges, proposing solutions, and providing recommendations.
Qualifications:

Educational/Professional Experience Required:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in off-site fabrication and/or on-site erection of steel structures.
  • AWS (American Welding Society) Certification as Welding Inspector (CWI) is highly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is desirable but not essential.
  • International Code Council (ICC) bolting inspector certification is advantageous but not required.
