Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Industrial Hygiene Specialist to join our team at Amsted Rail. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting industrial hygiene monitoring, surveys, and risk assessments to identify potential exposure in the workplace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Industrial Hygiene Monitoring: Carry out industrial hygiene monitoring to identify potential exposure in the workplace, including air and noise sampling, and personal monitoring.
  • Conduct Surveys and Risk Assessments: Conduct surveys and observe work conditions to identify processes that pose risk to employees, and develop plans to mitigate those risks.
  • Analyze and Interpret Sampling Results: Analyze and interpret sampling results to develop plans for reducing risk, and provide recommendations to management.
  • Develop and Implement Training Programs: Manage planning, development, and implementation of training programs based on regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Evaluate Safety Programs and Policies: Evaluate safety programs and policies to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Perform Evaluations of Ventilation and Other Systems: Perform evaluations of ventilation and other systems required for employee safety, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Review Plans, Designs, and Risk Analysis: Review plans, designs, and risk analysis to identify proper hazard controls, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide Recommendations for Engineering Controls: Provide recommendations for engineering controls to engineering and project management personnel.
  • Recommend Measures to Ensure Employee Protection: Recommend measures to ensure employee protection against potential workplace exposures.
  • Write Technical Reports and Maintain Records: Write expert-level technical reports and maintain records of sample results.
  • Provide Leadership and Technical Expertise: Provide leadership and technical expertise on a variety of industrial hygiene and safety-related topics, as assigned.
  • Create Networking Groups: Create formal networking groups with industrial health engineers and other key resources in the field.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational or Industrial Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working in EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) in a foundry, heavy manufacturing environment, or heavy construction consulting environment.
  • Certification: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is required.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists) guidelines, communicating details of safety procedures and environmental requirements, providing direction to management with regard to safety and environmental situations, and benchmarking with top companies and identifying new innovative approaches to risk reduction.
