About the Position

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Peer Navigator to join our team. As a key member of our Empowered Community Opioid Project (ECOP), you will play a vital role in supporting individuals in their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Peer Navigation: Develop and maintain one-on-one relationships with program participants, providing guidance, motivation, and support to help them achieve their recovery goals.
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Bridge Coordination: Collaborate with the ECOP Bridge Team to ensure seamless connections to Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) and other essential services.
  • Care Coordination: Work closely with participants, healthcare providers, and community partners to coordinate inpatient treatment, re-engagement, and other support services.
  • Data Tracking: Accurately document participant interactions, resource connectivity, and community data to inform program development and improvement.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) is required; completion of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) 72-hour peer recovery specialist curriculum is also necessary.
  • Lived Experience: Lived experience of and in stable recovery from a substance use disorder, with significant sustained recovery time.
  • Skills: Ability to serve as a role model for recovery, wellness, and self-advocacy; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to build rapport and listen actively.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, and Zoom; ability to enter notes timely into an electronic health record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Lived Experience: Lived experience of the carceral and legal systems.
  • Language Skills: Bi-lingual (Spanish) speaking.
  • Experience: Experience in wraparound intervention as a peer specialist.
  • Collaboration: Collaboration on an integrated team with behavioral health, medical, or justice system partners.
