The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Navigator to join our team. As a Peer Navigator, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals in their recovery journey, providing guidance, and connecting them with essential resources.
Responsibilities- Provide peer navigation and support to individuals in recovery, helping them access necessary resources and services.
- Collaborate with community partners, including law enforcement, healthcare providers, and social services, to ensure a comprehensive approach to recovery.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local agencies and organizations to advocate for participants and facilitate access to resources.
- Conduct intake processes, consent eligible participants, and complete intake forms.
- Provide information on available resources, including health insurance, medical, behavioral health, housing, transportation, and more.
- Build and maintain relationships with participants, providing ongoing support and guidance throughout their recovery journey.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification required.
- Lived experience of and in stable recovery from a substance use disorder, with significant sustained recovery time.
- Ability to serve as a role model for recovery, wellness, and self-advocacy.
- Disclosure of recovery experiences.
- Completion of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) 72-hour peer recovery specialist curriculum.
- Reliable transportation to meet participants and partners within the local Health District.
- Ability to meet volunteer criteria at the local or regional jail.
- Lived experience of the carceral and legal systems.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) speaking.
- Experience in wraparound intervention as a peer specialist.
- Collaboration on an integrated team with behavioral health, medical, or justice system partners.
