Position Overview:

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) plays a crucial role within the healthcare delivery framework, functioning independently in various capacities along the wellness-illness spectrum. NNPs are responsible for diagnosing and managing patients with both ambiguous symptoms and confirmed conditions. Their scope of practice encompasses comprehensive care, which includes conducting thorough patient histories, performing physical assessments, and engaging in health screening activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosing, treating, and overseeing patients with acute and chronic health issues.
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies.
  • Prescribing medications and necessary medical equipment.
  • Making appropriate referrals to specialists when necessary.
  • Promoting health, preventing disease, and providing education and counseling to patients and families.
  • Delivering care across the continuum, from primary to critical care for neonates and infants up to one year of age.
  • Executing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as indicated.

This role requires a commitment to uphold the mission and core values of Christus Health, ensuring that the highest standards of care are met. The NNP is expected to actively participate in the strategic objectives and performance improvement initiatives of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of four years of recent experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), with NNP experience preferred.
  • Fluency in English is required; bilingual skills (English/Spanish or English/French) are advantageous.
  • Possession of a current RN License and Advanced Practice License in Louisiana.
  • National Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NCC).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and NRP certification.

Work Schedule:

Per Diem as needed.
