JOB SUMMARY
The CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION REGISTERED NURSE is dedicated to the care of patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, including the insertion of permanent and temporary pacemakers, as well as intra-aortic balloon pumps.

This nursing professional is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of specialized medical equipment, assisting in both diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, while ensuring comprehensive patient care throughout the process.

The nurse operates under the direct supervision of the physician and the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory manager or supervisor.

EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate School of Nursing is required.

LICENSURE
Must possess a current and unrestricted state license as a Registered Nurse in New Jersey.

EXPERIENCE
A minimum of two years of experience as a cardiac catheterization laboratory nurse in a clinical environment is essential.

CREDENTIALS
Advanced CPR certifications, such as ACLS, are necessary; NALS may be required for those working with pediatric patients. Compliance with health and screening tests as mandated by specific facilities and regulatory agencies is also expected.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work may occur in various client facility settings, with potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other infectious materials.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to ATC policies and procedures.
- Follow nursing policies and procedures of the client facility.
- Accurately document all services provided.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
- Effectively communicate relevant information to appropriate personnel.
- Provide care while ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Continuously evaluate and adjust the care plan based on patient responses.
- Conduct ongoing nursing assessments of patients' physical and emotional needs, implementing appropriate therapeutic interventions.

The nurse provides patient services in a respectful, non-discriminatory manner, taking into account cultural diversity and age appropriateness, thereby preserving patient autonomy, rights, and dignity. Advocacy for patient rights regarding advance directives and organ donation is also a critical responsibility.

The role includes providing care to patients before, during, and after procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, performing non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, such as continuous telemetry and 12-lead EKG monitoring, and assisting physicians with both non-invasive and invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures.

To maintain professional competency, participation in continuing education programs is required, along with meeting state-specific requirements.

Compliance with ethical conduct and professional nursing standards as established by the American Nurses Association or equivalent organization is mandatory.
