JOB SUMMARY
The CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION REGISTERED NURSE focuses on the care of patients undergoing diagnostic cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiac procedures, including the insertion of both permanent and temporary pacemakers, as well as intra-aortic balloon pumps.
This nursing professional is tasked with the operation of specialized medical equipment in a safe and efficient manner, assisting in both diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, while providing patient care throughout the process.
The nurse operates under the direct supervision of the physician and the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory manager or supervisor.
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate School of Nursing is required.
LICENSURE
Must possess a current and unrestricted state license as a Registered Nurse in New Jersey.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of two years of experience as a cardiac catheterization laboratory nurse in a clinical environment is essential.
CREDENTIALS
Advanced CPR certifications, such as ACLS, may be required for those working with pediatric patients; health screenings and tests as mandated by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Various healthcare facility settings with potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other infectious materials.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adheres to ATC policies and procedures.
- Follows nursing policies and procedures of the client facility.
- Accurately documents all services provided.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
- Effectively communicates relevant information to appropriate personnel.
- Provides necessary care while ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Evaluates and adjusts the care plan based on patient responses.
- Conducts continuous nursing assessments of patients' physical and emotional needs, implementing appropriate therapeutic interventions.
- Delivers patient services in a respectful, non-discriminatory manner that acknowledges cultural diversity and age appropriateness, ensuring the preservation of autonomy, rights, and dignity.
- Advocates for patient rights regarding advance directives and organ donation.
- Administers care to patients before, during, and after procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
- Performs non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, including continuous telemetry and 12-lead EKG monitoring, along with dysrhythmia interpretation.
- Assists physicians with both non-invasive and invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Maintains professional competency through ongoing education and meets state-specific requirements.
- Complies with ethical conduct and professional nursing standards as established by the American Nurses Association or equivalent organization.
