Veterinary Nurse Coordinator

The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a skilled Veterinary Nurse Coordinator for our Orthopedics unit. As a valued member of our team, you will work in a supportive environment where you will have professional growth opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate orthopedic clinic and surgery schedules, including scheduling appointments and surgery, communicating with clients and local veterinarians, and patient admissions & discharges when needed.
- Administer sedation for orthopedic exams, radiographic imaging, joint taps, and bandage changes.
- Assist in coordination of cases with Anesthesia and other services (Radiology, Medicine, ICU, Emergency Service) during the surgery day.
- Ensure all preoperative blood work and request forms (including anesthesia and radiology) are submitted.
- Become familiar with all aspects of orthopedic surgery, including routine procedures and instrumentation.
- Facilitate communications with owners and referring veterinarians.
- Be available to discharge patients and explain discharge instructions to clients during the workday.
- Assist with patient exams, clipping/prepping patients for surgery, and work in other nursing areas to provide additional coverage as needed.
- Contribute to the Ryan Hospital Nursing Holiday Schedule as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
- Assist with patient exams and act as a liaison with other specialty services/nurses.
- Scrub in on selected surgical cases as an assistant (in-house training will be provided).
- Must be a Certified Veterinary Technician.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Veterinary Medicine.
- Prior orthopedic experience preferred.
- Anesthesia experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task while paying close attention to detail.
- Thrive under a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding work environment.
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment, while demonstrating a high level of initiative and motivation.
- Excellent organizational skills essential.
