Responsibilities
The Infection Control Coordinator is tasked with the surveillance, prevention, and management of infections.
This role involves assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with CDC, OSHA, AOA HFAP/TJC/CMS, local regulatory standards, and other relevant directives.
The Coordinator serves as a primary educational resource for hospital staff, physicians, patients, volunteers, and visitors regarding safe infection control and prevention practices. This position coordinates all hospital infection control initiatives with the Infection Control Committee, Medical Staff, and hospital personnel. Additionally, the Coordinator responds to potential exposure incidents by liaising with patients, physicians, employees, volunteers, and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree in medicine, nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, public health, or a related life science field is preferred.
- Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse with a valid PA license is strongly preferred.
- Current BLS (AHA) certification is required upon hire and must be maintained.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a healthcare environment is required, with at least one year of experience in infection control and/or employee health preferred.
- Membership in APIC or another Infection Prevention Organization is required upon acceptance.
- Successful completion of formal APIC courses in Infection Control is desirable.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred.
