Job Overview

The City of Waukesha is seeking a highly skilled Public Works Engineer to join its team. As a key member of the department, you will be responsible for performing routine engineering field and design work for public works projects and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preliminary planning and design services for various Public Works projects, including storm sewer, flood mitigation, sanitary sewer, and roadways.
  • Managing construction and post-construction activities in conjunction with senior engineers.
  • Investigating flood-prone areas and preparing design plans for drainage solutions.
  • Reviewing and commenting on private development plans to ensure compliance with state and local requirements.
  • Locating City utilities for Digger's Hotline as needed.
  • Performing survey work, including topographic surveys, construction staking, as-builts, and acting as a crew leader.
  • Acceptance testing and inspections of sanitary and storm sewers.
  • Working with engineering technicians and surveyors to accomplish engineering tasks related to design and construction of public infrastructure.
  • Maintaining required records and reports, including assisting in preparing the City's annual municipal storm water permit (MS4).
  • Overseeing the construction of Public Works infrastructure projects, including new and reconstructed streets and underground utilities.
  • Designing and drafting Public Works projects in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or assisting engineering technicians with drafting as needed.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering and an Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT) from the State of Wisconsin, or ability to obtain within 1 year, plus 1-2 years of experience in engineering work.
  • Knowledge of practices, modern methods, and techniques applied to civil engineering work in a municipal setting.
  • Office and field work related to preparation of plans, charts, reports, and construction of engineering projects.
  • Construction and maintenance laws, codes, department rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Use of standard office equipment, including computers and relevant software programs.
