Work Schedule:
Wednesday to Saturday: Flexible hours as required.
Role Summary:
The primary objective of this role is to uphold excellence and efficiency within the Technician Department, ensuring outstanding patient care. The Lead Veterinary Technician serves as a vital link among the veterinarians, management, and nursing personnel. Responsibilities include overseeing scheduling, evaluating employee performance, providing direct feedback, and facilitating training within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Foster and promote a positive workplace culture and supportive environment.
2. Offer enhanced support and training presence on the floor to the medical team.
3. Clearly communicate and frequently advocate for the shared values, objectives, and direction of the organization.
4. Manage scheduling for the nursing team, including approving time off and coordinating coverage.
5. Utilize scheduling software effectively.
6. Coordinate staffing arrangements during physician absences, ensuring coverage and support.
7. Facilitate communication and collaboration between departments regarding staffing, patient care, and protocols.
8. Promote and assist with training for both new and existing staff members, in collaboration with team leads.
9. Address staff concerns and performance issues in alignment with organizational expectations.
10. Provide constructive feedback to the Nursing Leadership Team regarding staff performance evaluations.
11. Document regular check-ins, skills assessments, goal setting, and follow-ups.
12. Assist with performance management and documentation for nursing team members.
13. Collaborate with the Nursing Leadership Team to address departmental needs.
14. Encourage a safe, supportive, and progressive environment for staff development.
15. Discourage negativity and unproductive behaviors.
16. Provide ongoing training and continuing education opportunities.
17. Actively participate in events that enhance the hospital's image and growth.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Extensive experience and knowledge in emergency and specialty veterinary medicine.
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician Shift Lead.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Dependable and responsible work ethic.
- Ability to follow directions accurately in various situations.
- Proactive in anticipating the needs of veterinarians and nursing staff.
- Capable of remaining calm and effective in emergency situations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong grooming and hygiene standards.
- Team-oriented mindset with a focus on fostering a positive culture.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and leadership skills.
- Tactful and diplomatic in interactions with staff and clients.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Previous supervisory or management experience is advantageous.
- Physical capability to assist with animals of various sizes.
Educational Background:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT) is mandatory.
Compensation:
Compensation is commensurate with experience and skill set, ranging from $28 to $35 per hour.
