Principal Software Engineer / Java / C++

A leading research organization is seeking talented Software Engineers in the Arlington, VA area to spearhead the development of innovative solutions addressing critical needs in National Security. This role involves working with advanced technologies in a full-time, direct-hire capacity.

This remarkable position offers the chance to showcase your expertise, take on leadership responsibilities, and tackle complex challenges. The organization is pioneering a shift in Department of Defense operations, moving towards compositional systems of systems rather than traditional monolithic architectures. The work encompasses a variety of tasks, including implementing advanced algorithms across ISR, EW, Networking, Cyber, and more, integrating diverse systems lacking standard interfaces, reverse engineering subsystems, designing custom toolchains to enhance development speed, and creating new infrastructure approaches to accommodate varied deployment requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience
  1. Strong background in crafting reliable and sustainable software solutions for complex algorithmic challenges.
  2. Proficient in programming languages such as C++ or Java.
  3. Thorough understanding of computer and network security principles.
  4. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to adapt and maintain productivity in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Eligibility for obtaining DoD Top Secret clearance is mandatory.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  1. Possession of an existing DoD Top Secret clearance is highly advantageous.
Responsibilities
  1. Participating in hands-on technical activities such as designing and developing intricate software algorithms, conducting performance profiling, optimizing code, and troubleshooting across various software platforms including Java, C++, and project-specific Domain Specific Languages (DSLs).
  2. Focusing on customer requirements to facilitate the development of effective operational capabilities.
  3. Assisting in software demonstrations and testing during lab and evaluation events.
  4. Mentoring junior team members to improve their technical and programmatic competencies.
  5. Creating documentation and test suites to support military personnel and collaborators in effectively utilizing our solutions.
  6. Adopting new technologies and innovating unique approaches as necessary.
