Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at Stony Brook Medicine. As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing quality child life services to children and families in our hospital. Your expertise will help us deliver exceptional patient care and support the well-being of our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist children in developing coping skills through play, recreation, and art.
  • Collaborate with child life staff to develop and implement new and effective programming.
  • Work with healthcare teams to identify patient needs and develop care plan goals.
  • Supervise volunteers and facilitate daily playroom activities.
  • Conduct in-services and training for hospital staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Cross-train in all units covered by child life specialists.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or related field.
  • Completion of Child Life Council Accredited 480-hour internship in Child Life or internship in Creative Arts Therapy within a hospital setting.
  • Certified by the Child Life Certifying Committee (within one year of hire or LCAT within one year).
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum three years of experience as a Child Life Specialist.
  • Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Creative Arts Therapy, or related field.
  • Dual certification in Child Life (CCLS) and Creative Arts Therapy (LCAT).
