Job Title: Quality Control Lab Tech

Key Responsibilities:

  • Test, monitor, and accurately document quality results and processing data for products produced.
  • Audit, verify, and follow up on process controls, including weight checks, batch sheets, HACCP, plant inspections, and receiving.
  • Support process variations related to formula adjustments to meet customer requirements.
  • Maintain high and effective communication with all operating departments.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), sanitation, and housekeeping standards.
  • Understand and apply the functionality of the Unshippable Program.
  • Utilize AS400 and JDE computer systems for quality functions.
  • Work toward gaining knowledge and understanding of crystallization and tempering processes for oils, margarines, shortening, mayonnaises, dressings, and sauces.
  • Maintain and complete files and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Follow all Food Safety policies, procedures, and regulatory criteria, including the current SQF code, GMP, and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) with associated Preventive Controls.
  • Utilize analytical lab equipment, including operating procedures, calibration, and routine maintenance.
  • Apply routine and special analytical procedures (e.g., chemical titrations, visual inspections, flavoring, advanced technical analyses) using standard methods.
  • Conduct GMP audits and post-cleaning inspections.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 2 + years of related laboratory experience, preferably in a food manufacturing lab environment.
  • Experience with fats, oils, dressings, and wet chemistry (titration) required.
  • Excellent math, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a self-starter.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with the crystallizing and tempering processes is a plus.
