Job Summary

UPMC is seeking a Casual Physical Therapist Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide physical therapy treatment in accordance with the plan of care established by the physical therapist.

Responsibilities
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, staff development, departmental committees, and in-service education programs.
  • Consistently utilize and provide appropriate supervision to clinical support staff in accordance with the Physical Therapy Practice Act of the practicing state.
  • Complete necessary charge/statistical information to accurately reflect services documented and rendered to patients.
  • Competently provide appropriate, comprehensive, and skillful therapeutic interventions based on treatment programs developed by a physical therapist for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within the scope of practice permitted by the Physical Therapy Practice Act of the practicing state.
  • Competently assist physical therapists in the survey of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within the scope of practice permitted by the Physical Therapy Practice Act of the practicing state.
  • Maintain written/electronic documentation that meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization for all clinical services rendered, including documentation of changes in a patient's status, cancellations, and the treatment intervention administered.
  • Ensure documentation is cosigned in accordance with the facility-specific guidelines and the Physical Therapy Practice Act of the practicing state.
  • Rotate through selected treatment areas and/or facilities when necessary to facilitate organizational needs.
  • Appropriately request and actively provide objective feedback to supervisors regarding department performance and emergency situations.
  • Schedule to achieve and maintain a level of productivity that meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization.
  • Demonstrate clinical ability to implement the treatment program within the plan of care outlined by the physical therapist in accordance with patient response to treatment and/or change in patient medical status to maximize outcomes.
  • Recognize information that requires alteration in the plan of care and notify the physical therapist in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Demonstrate clinical ability to implement the treatment program within the plan of care outlined by the physical therapist in a fashion that reflects current scientific and clinical knowledge to effectively achieve established outcomes/goals.
  • Graduate of a Physical Therapist Assistant program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association with an associate's degree as a physical therapist assistant.
  • Must possess knowledge and skills required to provide quality customer service.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Physical Therapist Assistant or Physical Therapist Assistant Indirect Supervision.
