We are seeking a highly skilled Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialist I (IV Certified) to join our team at NYU Langone Health. The successful candidate will perform medically prescribed MRI procedures of designated anatomical areas under the general direction of the radiologist and supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and utilize MRI equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and quality control checks.
- Perform imaging and peripheral equipment in a safe and productive manner, adhering to hospital departmental and manufacturers' procedures.
- Observe and report any equipment malfunctions, notifying appropriate personnel in case of missing or damaged equipment.
- Implement patient procedures independently, following departmental protocols and standards.
- Explain procedures and equipment to patients clearly, obtaining formal consent when necessary.
- Provide patient comfort and maintain an ongoing rapport throughout the procedure.
- Position patients and MRI equipment appropriately, adjusting settings to ensure maximum information is obtained.
- Use identifying markers and follow accepted MRI procedures, reviewing patient information sheets and considering various protocols.
- Ensure high-quality exams, using positioning and immobilizing devices to improve image quality.
- Solve problems that arise during patient examinations, altering examination techniques as needed.
- Confer with other technologists and assist physicians as necessary during procedures.
- Perform transmission and/or segmentation for transmission to PACS, generating high-quality hard copies of images when necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness of radiographic areas, preparing equipment and supplies in advance for future exams.
- Recognize medical emergencies and notify nurse, PA, and/or MD immediately.
- Effectively assess patient information and status, planning appropriate procedures accordingly.
- Use standard procedures to identify patients, checking wristbands and introducing themselves to patients.
- Review patient requisitions and understand the type of exam required, conferring with medical staff regarding clarification when necessary.
- Seek information or ask for assistance from supervisors regarding difficult or questionable results.
- Follow accepted radiologic procedures, using medical information to determine the type of protocol required for radiographic examinations.
- Consult policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials as necessary to ensure actions conform to established protocols.
- Recognize the need for and follow isolation precautions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate skill in using hospital and radiology information systems, accessing patient information, and following HIPAA regulations.
- Correctly choose patient information from HIS/RIS systems, demonstrating ability to access patient data for verification of orders.
- Maintain department log books in an orderly manner, recording machine performance data as directed.
- Demonstrate skill in setup and administration of IV contrast media, explaining procedures and processes to patients.
- Assess existing intravenous lines or select appropriate venipuncture sites, attaching injector tubing to patients' intravenous lines.
- Load and program contrast media power injectors according to established departmental procedures, assigning injection rates based on access and protocol.
- Ensure emergency equipment is readily available, injecting intravenous contrast using power injectors and monitoring patients for signs of contrast media reaction or extravasation.
- Notify radiologists or LIPs in case of reaction or extravasation.
Requirements:
To qualify, you must have a Bachelor's Degree and hold Intravenous Contrast Administration Certification in New York State. You must also be certified as a Radiologic Technologist in New York State and hold an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Primary Certification/Registration. Additionally, you must possess a BLS Certification.
